Palisades

The house on Palisades included some very high-quality woodworking and finishes, which would be consistent with the home of someone who worked in the lumber business.

The original structure was removed to make way for a new build. Prior to demolition, our team salvaged most of the rubber wood paneling, trim, oak flooring, doors, hardware, and stairs from this home.

History

This Craftsman-style bungalow was located in the Swansea Village area adjacent to High Park. The history of the house is inextricably linked to the history of Swansea Village, which was separated from the Township of York in 1926.

Photos show Swansea before it was annexed into Toronto, an unpopular move with the area’s residents. Maps showing the area before it was developed show the relatively rural feel of the neighborhood.

Neither the house nor the street is listed in the city directory until 1930. This is typical of the area, as most homes were built between the years 1905 and 1935. The first listed occupant is John B. Morgan in the 1930s city directory.

In this same Directory, Morgan is listed as the owner of a lumber Company in Toronto. Some research leads us to believe that John. B. Morgan may have been the owner of what is now Midway Lumber, although this is hard to confirm as his name is very common for the time.
